Boston

Boston is best known for its famous baked beans, Fenway Park, The Boston Marathon, and of course for the bar from Cheers, but dig a little deeper below the surface and you'll find a surprising wealth of things that make Boston a great city.

Boston constructed the first public park, Boston Common in 1634; the first public school, Boston Latin, in 1635; the first subway system, known as the Tremont Street Subway, in 1897; the first Public Library; first Newspaper, Boston News-Letter; first "American" restaurant, The Union Oyster House (still open); first Marathon; first sewing machine; first windmill. Then there's the first chocolate factory (Baker Chocolate), first inoculation, first telephone, etc…

There's so much to see and do. History abounds. Sports is a pretty big thing here too. There are excellent museums and some pretty good colleges and universities. And yes, the seafood is mighty delicious. And of course there's so much more.

A City of Neighborhoods

Allston, Back Bay, Bay Village, Beacon Hill, Brighton, Charlestown, Chinatown, Dorchester, Downtown, East Boston,  Fenway, Hyde Park, Jamaica Plain, Kenmore, Leather District, Mattapan, Mission Hill, North End, Roslindale, Roxbury, South Boston, Seaport, South End, West End, West Roxbury.

As you can see, Jamaica Plain is pretty much in the middle of it all. A great place to stay while you explore the City.

Jamaica Plain

Jamaica Plain, or JP as we call it, is one of Boston's most diverse neighborhoods and houses a wide variety of beautiful green spaces. Trails loop around Jamaica Pond and through the many acres of Harvard University's Arnold Arboretum, both are links in Frederick Law Olmsted's Emerald Necklace, a chain of parks.

Family-owned restaurants, indie shops and neighborhood bars line Centre Street. Latin American eateries are clustered around Hyde Square. One of my favorite spots, Forest Hills Cemetery, noted for its landscaping and sculpture walk, dates from 1848.

The classic streetcar suburb that became one of Boston's most dynamic neighborhoods. The perfect place to visit, shop & dine.

Your Stay at PPL

Your stay is in a unique eclectic home – the former Fandel Press, a letterpress printing company founded in 1922. We bought the building in 2001 to create a unique loft-style home. Located within an easy walk to all Jamaica Plain has to offer and are a short subway ride to Chinatown, downtown Boston, or Cambridge.

Guest Access

Guests have a private entrance to their space. We'll send you the lock box code upon booking. Feel free to park in the driveway. There's a connecting door to the main part of our house which is almost always unlocked.

Interactions

I'm as available as you need. If you prefer privacy, it's yours. Or I'd enjoy sharing my knowledge of Boston's history and JP over coffee or other beverage in our yard.
